Makeup Artist Tricks: How to Fake Perfect Skin Without Primer:

We're always fascinated by the contents of a makeup artist's kit. There are plenty of staples we expect to see—Armani Luminous Silk, Diorshow, Clé de Peau Concealer—and usually a few fun surprises (this olive oil spray delivers the perfect dewy glow—thank you, Kayleen McAdams). But even more so than the eye gloss and the fancy brushes, what we're consistently amazed by isn't the makeup at all—it's the skincare. And today they're opening up there bag of tricks and spilling their pre-makeup secrets for perfect skin. Scroll through to find out what the pros use to make their makeup look even better!

Skin Prep Secret Weapon: Mila Moursi Cyro Serum/Ice Cube Infusion ($155)
“It's a little package that you freeze. When ready to use, you put in the gauze pouch that comes with the product, and slowly massage it over the face and neck as the serum melts. When it's done melting, you massage the rest of the product into skin. I love it because it tightens and de-puffs the skin so it’s great for special occasions (i.e. red carpet, weddings, etc). I’m obsessed!”

Skin Prep Secret Weapon: Caudalie Beauty Elixir ($18) + Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre ($28) + Sisley Paris Black Rose Precious Face Oil ($235)
“For me the most important step in makeup is always the skincare selection beforehand. I cleanse the skin first to ensure a flawless base, and then spray Caudalie Beauty Elixir generously over the face. While the face is still wet I mix a combination of Embryolisse Moisturiser and Sisley Black Rose Face Oil and massage onto the face. The moisture from the spray attracts water to the skin so the moisturizer will penetrate the skin more effectively.”

Skin Prep Secret Weapon: Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum ($75) + Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum ($95) + Glossier Priming Moisturizer ($25)
“We’re big into skincare—without good preparation of the skin you aren't going to get the results you want. We start by cleansing the skin with a gentle cleansing water. From there we like to use a product with a little hyaluronic acid in it, this helps to wake up the skin. We both love Kate Sommerville Quench because it provides noticeable results immediately and absorbs quickly. We do love a facial oil as well. Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Serum is a favorite. It penetrates quickly, is great to layer under moisturizer for deep hydration, and it’s great prep if you are looking for a more dewy finish to your makeup.  No matter what, we always finish our prep with a moisturizer. We love the Glossier Priming Moisturizer. It’s very hydrating but also very sheer, it is great for layering.”
